Mold removal FAQs

How much does mold removal cost in Boulder?

Most Boulder-area mold jobs land between about 1,300 and 2,600 dollars. A small spot on one wall can be a few hundred. A whole finished basement, or heavy black mold with hidden damage, can run several thousand. The two things that move the price most are the size of the affected area and how hard it is to reach. We give you a written figure before any work starts.

Is black mold dangerous?

Any indoor mold can affect air quality and may bother people with allergies or asthma, and some people are more sensitive than others. Colour alone does not tell you how risky a patch is, since plenty of harmless molds look dark. What matters is how much there is and whether people are breathing it. We treat dark mold with full containment as standard. Health questions belong with a doctor, not us.

What is the difference between mold removal and mold remediation?

They mean the same thing in practice. Remediation is the industry term for the whole process: sealing the area, cleaning, removing ruined materials, treating surfaces, and fixing the water source. No one can make a home permanently mold-free, because spores are always in the air at low levels. The goal is to get growth out and get levels back to normal.

How long does mold remediation take?

A single room is often one to three days. A basement, or a job with damage hidden behind walls, can take a week or more. Fixing the moisture source, like drying out a crawl space, can add time on top. You get a schedule with your estimate so there are no surprises.

Does homeowners insurance cover mold removal?

Sometimes. Many policies cover mold when it comes from a sudden, covered event like a burst pipe or an overflowing appliance. Mold from a slow leak, old humidity, or poor maintenance is usually not covered. Check your policy wording and call your agent. We can document the likely cause in writing to support a claim.

Can I remove mold myself?

Small patches, under about a square metre, on a hard surface like tile or sealed wood, are often fine to clean yourself with soap and water and good airflow. Wear a mask and gloves. Anything larger, anything on drywall or into framing, or anything you are unsure about, is worth a call. Scrubbing a big patch spreads spores and usually leaves the roots behind.

Do you do air testing after the work is done?

Yes, and we recommend it be done by a separate party. An outside lab compares the indoor spore count to outdoor air and to normal ranges. If it passes, you have written proof the job worked. If it does not, the containment goes back up and we keep working at no extra charge.

Why do Boulder homes get mold in such a dry climate?

Dry air outside does not keep a home dry inside. Mold still needs a damp spot, and Front Range homes have plenty: cool basements, crawl spaces with bare soil, bathrooms with weak fans, attic sheathing after winter ice dams, swamp coolers running all summer, and slow leaks nobody has noticed yet. Find and fix the moisture and the mold has nothing to live on.
